Shaping the Future: Manatee County Hosts Key Public Hearings on Land Use and Recovery!

Last Updated: June 12, 2025By

In an effort to address pressing land use and recovery needs, Manatee County has scheduled two significant public hearings for June 12, 2025. The hearings are intended to engage community members in shaping local development and disaster recovery initiatives.

The first hearing, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the Manatee County Government Administrative Center, will delve into proposed zoning changes. County officials are considering a rezone of a five-acre parcel located at 8915 Erie Road in Parrish. The proposal involves transitioning the land from its current General Agriculture (A) designation to a Planned Development-Residential (PDR) zoning district. This shift aims to facilitate residential development, addressing local housing demands. Such zoning changes are crucial as they determine how land can be utilized, potentially affecting community structure, population density, and environmental impact. This hearing offers residents the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns, fostering a collaborative approach to county development.

Later that day, at 6:00 p.m., the focus will shift to the Draft Action Plan for Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) efforts. This hearing will be held at Eternity Temple Church in Palmetto, FL. The plan details how federal funds allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will be used to support recovery in areas most affected by the 2024 hurricanes. As these natural disasters left significant devastation, the strategic deployment of CDBG-DR funds is vital for rebuilding infrastructure and ensuring economic stability in the hardest-hit areas. The hearing aims to gather input from residents and stakeholders to ensure that recovery efforts align with the community’s needs and priorities.

Participating in these hearings allows citizens to influence pivotal decisions impacting Manatee County’s future, reflecting the community’s values and long-term vision.
